The RZ ARTs
This virtual platform showcases Dr. Mark Reiley’s major art works in the last fifty years. “Painting is self-discovery, a good artist paints what he is.” Jackson Pollock once said. Mark's work represents and reflects who he was and what he was thinking at the time of each painting. His paintings are derived from his personal paths; his sentiments, empathy, nostalgia, moods and feelings for anything around him. Behind each painting, there is usually a personal story. Some paintings recall the vicissitudes of his surgical training, the bad and the good parts of his life encounters. Overall, his paintings reveal the opposite side of the physical pain he witnessed from his patients, in the emergency rooms. “Why shouldn't art be pretty? There are enough unpleasant things in the world.” (Renoir) That’s Mark’s philosophy of art. After a good view of his set of works, our viewers may find Mark's paintings are not like anyone else’s. And as an individual human being, Mark himself is not like anyone, either.
